Projects

At Educare Central Maine: The Giving Tree mural in the lobby at the main entrance has a sculpted trunk and branches, stained glass mosaic leaves, and ceramic blossoms. At kid-level, the foreground (not shown) contains wildflowers and a hummingbird.

The “Woodsy Wall” with adjoining “Rock Ledge” wall contain many Maine animals, including birds and insects, taken from a list of suggestions compiled by Educare teachers. This area is used by the children. When they sit down to look at books on the “rock ledge’s” built-in wooden bench, they sit next to the foxes, and discover that there’s also a bat (painted) hanging in the “cave”!

At the E. J. Prescott Corp.’s Headquarters in Gardiner, ME: The 2-story lobby mural showing a wooded pond and Mt. Katahdin also has a large expanse of sky which is not shown in these photos. All of Maine’s mammals are included as well as many Maine birds, plants (including poison ivy), and insects (but not nearly enough mosquitos!) The mural also contains a life-sized wooden eagle carved by Maine sculptor, Stephen Hensel. The building is used for community events as well as business. Visitors are welcomed.

The Senator Inn in Augusta: The complex contains many murals, mosaics, and painted effects throughout the Inn, Cloud 9 Restaurant, and Spa. A few of those are shown here. The Blue Willow-Inspired room shown is the Handicapped Bath, which is off the hotel entrance’s lobby. The dining room entrance has the (Alice-In-Wonderlandish) BIG mural. The restaurant has the Mosaic Tree and many painted skies. There are also small bird murals on the walls as you head towards the dining room’s restrooms. The inn’s elevator doors are faux marble. “Mona” (see “In the style of…” gallery) greets you as you enter the Senator Spa, where there are painted and mosaic elements throughout. The grandest space is the pool area with its architectural trompe l’oeil mural and huge clouded sky ceiling.
